Cat fight / screening / stuff

Last night, while we were hanging out in the dining room with the housemates, Emma started getting into a fight with one of the yard kitties through the glass doors again (Roy, I believe, not Ziggy). Just as things were seriously escalating, I tried to put my foot between Emma and Roy, to block her view. Evidently she thought my foot was another cat leaping into the fray, because she turned and latched on and tried to give my foot a good lashing.

So when we stopped by the hardware store this morning, we picked up some window privacy screening to cover the bottom half of the door, along with getting a bunch of fiberglass mosquito screening to keep mosquitoes from getting into the bedroom at night. (also, the mosquitoes at hand aren't either of those Aedes species - they are way too big and fat and slow)

I think I need to dial back on the "stuff-dealing" for a little while. I have all these ideas about things I want to improve or whatever, but at the same time I'm appreciating L's attitude about also making time and space to do and experience more things. And I've never liked shopping all that much. It's a bit hard to tell how much of this feeling stems from having moved and trying to get settled in new circumstances (I was feeling pretty good about my routine in Lincoln by the time it was time to move), versus how much of it just comes from trying to maintain the right sort of life balance. And I suppose to some extent it doesn't really matter. It's just about trying to be intentional about where time, effort, and resources all go. And actually, I'm pleased on at least one front. It feels like things are going well in terms of cooking - a good mix of cooking good things but not spending an inordinate amount of time and effort on it.

Not too long ago, I learned about a website called Buy Me Once that seems like a promising concept, at least.

I'm very much a Buy Me Once person (all their shoes turned up at the toe....). I'll not need a car for another 12-14 years, my bicycle ought last until I'm too old to get up off it. I was hoping we'd grow old in the house (but may not...)

Unfortunately, I'll have to buy another dog someday.

This is morbid, but...at least dogs (and cats) compost!

One of the challenges for me is figuring out what to do with stuff once it is worn out well past the point of repair - I HATE having to throw stuff into landfills.

Gir the bunny is now a lavender bush :)

A lavender bush would be a great transformation for many of us!

I was talking to a friend yesterday who said it would be cooler to have one's remains fed to an endangered species, like a tiger. A slightly different take on reincarnation. ;^)

I think we might be like bear livers, though... not good for the tiger. At least, not as a steady diet. I bet there's a lot of stuff that accumulates problematically.

Hahaha, you're probably correct! Or too high in fat, in general. :^)

Ow. I hope your foot/ankle are okay.

One of the reasons I'm so agog about lathes and mills is that in theory I don't even have to buy once.

I've got some scratch marks, but things appear to be healing without issue, so I'll be fine. Altogether Emma is a pretty submissive cat, so this is the first time she's ever really done any damage!

Given infinite time and money, I'd follow the same route as you, although I think I'm slightly more interested in furniture-making and less interested in machining.

It's easy to get distracted by the realization that with a lathe you can make a tablesaw or whatever.

Oh hey I snapped a derailleur cable today and whilst getting a new one at the frou-frou shop in Boulder I noticed they had a whole stack of 8 speed Campy cassettes, new in box (and not super cheap). No derailleurs, though.

This reminds me that scrottie is still waiting to hear from you on how to work out a good BioPace exchange. Maybe I need to bake some cookies sometime soon.... ;^)
