The Interwebs

1. Just the latest thing, in this longstanding thing-battle, in case you have capacity or energy left in your outrage-tank: https://www.aclu.org/news/aclu-comment-congressional-move-allow-internet-providers-sell-consumer-data-without-permission

2. I am curious to know what some of you more-knowledgeable sorts think about this: http://www.rootsimple.com/2014/02/what-the-internet-will-look-like-after-the-zombie-apocalypse/

[And also, thank you to thewronghands for expanding on your experience getting up-to-speed on HAM-related matters the other day.]

Happy to help! Re: the article, yes, that's pretty well proven and doable. (I mean, you still need to have reliable power, not guaranteed in a zombie apocalypse. But if you have that, then you're in pretty reasonable shape.) There are several different protocols that can do this sort of thing, and disaster relief groups have tried many to most of 'em. This is one of the best. Also, it's why having been an ISP engineer helped me so much when I was doing the ham exams... I knew some of it already, and much of the rest just made sense to me.

Aye, thankee!

And suddenly I feel slightly more intrigued by the idea of getting a HAM license...I could see it being potentially useful for multiple purposes now.
