More on the Livejournal front

(thanks to nibot) Here's the news post describing the main change to LJ.

The first line says, "Control of LiveJournal as a blogging platform has been transferred to SUP Media LLC, a legal entity based in the Russian Federation."

What is the Russian Federation? Why do they want LJ?

The majority of LJ users in this day and age are Russian, believe it or not. As usership dwindled in the US, LJ made the decision to relocate hosting to Russia. So this is basically the next step in the transition.

Welcome to life on a Russian blogging platform! It probably isn't that different from life on the former American blogging platform. Personally, I got annoyed when the advertisements started and weird promotions started to pop up on my personal blog feed. I see this latest move as an indicator that those sorts of changes are likely to continue here.

In Russian social media, blog reads you! :P

I expect to move the rest of my journal over the weekend, when I have more time.
