Limericks

0. Here is an old-school rowing film, about 10 minutes long. I went to file away the link among other rowing notes, and came across...

1. Here are some clever rowing limericks.

2. And, Here are some randonneuring limericks. I'm inclined to agree that they'd be an interesting way to stay awake during 600ks.

I love those. I used to compose limericks but these are all significantly better than my best attempts.

Yeah, I was pretty impressed (and amused), too! I also thought it sounded like a fun project during a long brevet.

I am going to try the next time I go running. I bet the results will be some kind of Venn diagram overlap between terrible and hilarious. Regrettable, but hopefully in the worth sharing way.

*cackles evilly*

Unfortunately I have this feeling that my verbal abilities are going to deteriorate too far while riding this next brevet (400k / 250 miles), but I hope you have better success!

Oh, I am *dumb* while running. I chanted "cake cake cake cake" for most of a marathon once. (Or maybe it was a half. My memory is fuzzy.) So this should be pretty hilarible. [grin] I'll have to bring a notepad or something to write them down as best I can remember, or see if there's a good speech-to-limerick recording app, heh. We can compare notes.

For the last third of the ride, manintheboat starts mumbling "sand-WICH sand-WICH sand-WICH!" and I know it's time to get some food or something into her.

Ahahaha, nice!

I thought about "cake! Cake! Cake!" a couple of times while riding, I'll admit. :-D

The sandwich I ate for dinner was like rocket fuel. It also helped that we had a cross-tailwind on the section after dinner, and it was the kind of terrain where I tend to do best.

Man, that's such a rough part, where you're fighting a quartering headwind for tens of kilometers, dreaming of how great it's going to be after you turn, and when you do, for me it's always so much less help than I had anticipated and I feel so let down.

manintheboat occasionally starts singing "ice-CREAM ice-CREAM ice-CREAM!" as well, but that's rarer because she's almost always cold. Still, a good two-syllable marching tune seems to work well for her.

This time around I mostly had the music from this rowing video I posted a couple of days ago stuck in my head. It was a good soundtrack overall! Groovy.

That is definitely groovy music for long bike rides.

Aaaah! Some of those poems need an edit
Their scansion, well, they just forget it
If when sweat beads the brow,
They rhyme any old how,
Then I've said with red lead I'll embed it.

But many are perfectly marvelous
They make my poor poems look garbelous!
With whimsy and wit
They are surely a hit
Rather than acts poetical, barbarous.
