Rapid City

Saw Mt Rushmore from a distance, but many other cool things up close - wild asses, prairie dogs, amazing rock formations, buffalo, pronghorn antelope, rock tunnels, and pigtail corkscrew bridges. My mom made me do yoga, but she was right. Good non-greasy Indian food for dinner in Rapid City. Town's so suburban, but we did see a bicycle gang, in costumes, even. I have missed the sound of the wind in pine trees, sigh...A silly trip but am glad I am here. Tappity-tapped this out on da cell-o-phone. Driving back across Nebraska tomorrow...

I was in Rapid City a year ago, didn't get to see much, but it was definitely a more interesting part of South Dakota than most.

Actually I had good Indian food there too. Consulting Google...Kathmandu Bistro, that must be what it was.

Hmm, that means there are at least two tasty places! We went to a pretty humble place called, hilariously, Curry Masala.

I have been happy to see topography and rocks. :-)

Yes, that was my reaction too upon arrival: there's a rocky hill over there! So exciting! Are we sure this is South Dakota?

Thank you for sharing, even from the cellphone. I traveled through South Dakota in 2003 on the way to field camp in Montana, and we saw lots of things through the windows of the van, but I remember liking the landscape. We stayed the night in Rapid City and the night air was cool and soothing. I hope it is for you too.

Have a good drive tomorrow.

Unsurprisingly, I thought of you a lot during the drive, as the geological history of the area is fascinating, plus we saw several vans leading geological tours. :-)

Aww man, we have to hit the road early this morning. But I could see myself coming back through at some point, so I'll make note!
