I want this.

So, here's a system being used by Chattanooga police to enforce Tennessee's three-foot law.

But...think about this device for a moment. It could potentially be used to develop a warning system for bicyclists so they know when they're in danger of being buzzed (for those who aren't especially good at using auditory/visual cues). Further, it could be set up to start capturing video data as soon as a vehicle gets too close. It could also be attached to an obnoxiously loud air horn.

I want it attached to my bike AND an obnoxiously loud air horn. Cause reasons.

I have a friend who is working on bike-mounted license plate recognition: http://softsolder.com/2015/06/03/fly6-video-compression-blur-to-sharpen/
He's thinking about exactly this.
I have another friend who has done a large chunk of automated license plate optical recognition software that'll take a recognizable picture and turn it into the plate #, for dealing with speeders at/past their house.

Yeah, Mayhem uses his GoPro on both his bicycle and his motorcycle for "in case of accident here is what happened" insurance. (I have spent the flights over today reading about motorcycle tactics for crash avoidance and prevention, and I wonder how much of it carries over; there's definitely some.)
