Things I am bringing to Seattle:

-Bike saddle
-Two pairs of bike shorts
-Pointy pirate shoes
-Pirate vest
-Pirate shirt
-Z-rest foam pad
-Tent but not stakes (borrowing some)
-Two t-shirts
-Sports bra
-Wool long-sleeve shirt
-Wool long underwear pants
-Wool hat
-Wool arm-warmers
-Computer (will pretend I'm going to get work done on the leafcutter manuscript Wednesday afternoon)
-Purse and contents
-Travel towel and washcloth
-Sea shanty lyrics
-Headlight and taillight
-Travel mug
-Heavy-duty space blanket (tent footprint)
-Jambox and mp3 player
-Pirate flag (hopefully)
-Pashmina scarf

I suspect they're going to search my luggage. It's going to take a while to repack everything. I don't like traveling with luggage this full.

Things I am not bringing to Seattle:
-scrottie (gets here in 3 hours!!)
-Book (will try to read the one I have on the computer)
-Airplane crafts (will I regret the absence? Seemed too difficult to bring the cat bed that needs quilting)

See you soon!
Temperature has cooled from last week to about 80 degrees today. Haze outdoors due to smoke: I think from fire in Olympic National Park. Your dad says there might be a bit of precipitation on Saturday.

We call this "taking the computer for a walk". :) We take lots of things for walks: library books, journals/papers, work...

I suspect they're going to search my luggage.
Huh. Any reason why? It doesn't look too suspicious. I think the only times mine has been looked at has when I've brought tons of computer and camera stuff. (And then the "guards" are all, "Oh, fancy cameras! Not a terrorist!")

I am definitely going to adopt that language, hah!

...and as it turned out, my bicycling pannier stuffed full of clothes and tent (sans tent stakes) did not excite the Transportation Security Theater. Works for me! :-)

modern travel
just send them an email with this list and ask them to notify you ahead of time if they have any aversion to any of it, if they can read... otherwise stay cool and enjoy the ride..

; )

get a lawyer to sign it and challenge them before they challenge you. that way all your traveling papers should be in order, so to speak.

i saw it on a movie or read it in a book, not know which...

Re: modern travel
Hahaha, not a bad thought. I didn't wind up getting frisked on my way out at all. So I suppose I can use that in my favor for the return trip.

Re: modern travel
This time around, I'm going to wind up shipping a box back to myself, containing at least a strange cat book, a 20-inch bike tire, and a waffle iron that used to belong to my grandpa.

Re: modern travel
