I'm doing a slideshow on my PBP adventures this evening, which made it necessary to figure out how to organize a whole bunch of photos, quick. After a little while, I managed to get Bridge to make that happen.

Music is an irritant, however. VLCPlayer seems adequate for the job, at least on the laptop, but I can't seem to tell if I have playlists on the smart-o-phone or if I have to organize everything into folders, and figuring that out falls into the category of "things I can't be arsed to deal with." It appears the app is trying to be too clever about using gestures or incantations or ritual sacrifices or something. The problem is compounded by the fact that I've also got a wee mp3 player (Sansa Clipp) with its own idiosyncrasies.

Compounding this irritant is the fact that I am concluding that I can't stand listening to the Midday Show on KEXP. The DJ plays music that grates, every single day.

I feel like I have something more profound to blog about, but I can't seem to remember it today. I'm waiting until I finish reading The Book on Forgiving before writing about it. It's a good book.

try the archived shows on KEXP? i recommend morning show, el sonido, preaching the blues, etc. the latter two don't have much talking if the anachronistic context annoys you.

After I posted this rant, I realized that I should point out that part of the problem is that when I am working, I am wearing radioactive gloves and can't fiddle with the smart-o-phone much. And YES to those programs!

Man I wish I could see that slideshow.

Well....since you hinted nicely...

This is "friends-only" because two of the photos belong to other people, and it duplicates other PBP photos I've posted on Flickr, but is organized by theme. Small turnout, but people were totally into it and had fun.

The sheer variety of bikes is a bit boggling. I'm suddenly a lot more keen on the idea of a recumbent, particularly one with a partial fairing -- a good place to stash food.
Fave pic is still the tandem with the pirate outfit from STP.

The velomobiles are really attractive to me for climates with a lot of inclement weather, with the only issue being that they suffer from the same problems that recumbents generally suffer from, being even more low-visibility than an upright cycle.

I would also like to point out that nobody has ever completed PBP on a tallbike.

And yes, that photo from the STP (and the memories that accompany it!) is the BEST. Great rides and adventures don't always have to be super-crazy long.

I also worry about repairing a broken faired bike, particularly out on the road. I suppose if the components were mostly normal maybe that wouldn't be such a big deal.

I think the components tend to be pretty normal, and there are also shops that carry repair kits to help with the specialized bits. Also, duct tape and baling wire. :-D

N's has pulleys that hold the chain in position (one of which is actually under tension so it gets a fair bit of strain) and a 20" front wheel. I'd definitely bring spokes along for that. Weird handlebars and stem but they take zero strain so should last forever.

Nice show!
Appears to be a diversion from your major adventures of the moment.... Thinking of you with your palmitate project and wishing you well.

Space heater recommendations: whatever they're selling at the Good-o-wheel. Just keep it away from everything.
Oct. 31st, 2015 07:36 pm (UTC)
I don't think I've ever seen space heaters for sale at the Goodwill, although they aren't listed as "items we're unable to accept" based on a quick internets search. I would suspect they would sell out quickly.

However! The nearby Ace Hardware had the style of space heater that I've used before (oil-filled radiator style). So I went with that. Yay Ace!
