Status: Packing

I have reached Stage 2.

(side note: why couldn't a Google-powered search of my own blog pull up an entry that's only slightly over a year old? Google, you suck. I had better luck searching my old Facebook entries, then going through blog archives by hand!!).

Things are going into three different categories this time around:

1. Stuff I won't need for the next 2 years (large furniture items, leafcutter ant containers, bulky cooking items like the KitchenAid mixer and mixing bowls, all of the decorative ceramics that have survived previous culling, Mister Pushy the push-mower).

2. Stuff that I might want occasionally that will fit through the small entrance to the attic in A's house (new housemates: A and P, yay!). E.g. large pot for canning, canning jars, mementos.

3. Stuff that will go in my new bedroom. It's gonna be crowded in there, yo.

Things that are going to go away: cheap IKEA coffee table, large particle board shelf, small particle board shelf, massive three-drawer filing cabinet (I have VIVID memories of hulking that thing up the back steps into this apartment. That and the loveseat were the most challenging to move by myself.).

For Category 1, I have a dilemma. Where should I store these things? scrottie found a decent storage place here in Lincoln. Denver and Salt Lake City will be en route for the drive, and I know people in both cities, so those are candidates, too. I'll be middle-of-nowhere Nevada is cheap. Berkeley is probably too expensive and I won't plan on needing access to any of the Category 1 items - so, like the moving pod but for a longer timeframe.

There are a _ton_ of places out here, and if you'd like to spend the night here on your way west, there are storage places within walking distance and I'd be glad to keep a once-a-month or so eye on the contents.

Thank you on both counts!

So - we are going to roll through on the evening of Monday, November 23. My friend AP says she'll put us up for the night, but I want to meet up with you and manintheboat, too!

Oooh it'd be fun to meet her, as well.

What part of the city are you staying in? I'll probably be at work all day, getting out around 6:45.

Let's see here...my friend AP lives in Lakewood, and navigational apps tell me that she's 9 miles from you-uns. Do you have ideas on places that might be swell for dinner somewhere in that vicinity?

So... we are not exactly on the way, but we do have a fair amount of extra space in our condo, and not a whole lot of spare money to fill it up with furniture at the moment! If you wanted, you could probably store things here for 2 years. For free, as long as we could lightly use any bulky furniture and it's not a completely overwhelming amount of stuff. (We can store kitchen stuff, mower, ceramics, ant stuff, etc. in the basement.) What say you?

Hm! This idea intrigues me greatly. It's definitely not an overwhelming amount of stuff, although there's one caveat in that my loveseat and the one chair I'm holding onto are both in serious need of reupholstering. On the flipside, money saved on storage could go to reupholstering, eh eh? And I think your aesthetic and mine would be aligned in that department. Hmmmmmmm...

If you haven't disposed of other chairs already, by the way, we would totally take chairs. (Or not, if they're too bulky to move.)

We are not scared of temporarily deferred reupholstering, or of persuading parental units with better hauling options to help with any non-deferred reupholstering.

Think on it some more!

Okay, moving discussion over to email.
