*Evil cackle*

1. I am self-banning myself from Facebook during working hours. Period. End of story. I will have a work desktop computer, which should help. I am going to embark on a focused work ethic resolution (note that I often use LJ to organize my thoughts). If you and I are friends on the Book of Face and you catch me on there during working hours, I will pay you $5.

2. CW has an XtraCycle. I will give her a pirate sticker shortly. This lab is full of tea-drinkers. I am in the right place. We are hatching plans for some excellent experiments.

I already tested your resolve by cross-posting a spider web cloak to your FB wall. Obviously, that's something that can wait.

As I said (crudely), I think it's a good idea to schedule distinct time in the evening for work dates and for social media. I need to give friends and family more love on FB and have been digging my heels and resisting social media-ing to try to tilt things towards work dates, but lack of balance never works. We need both.

It gets a bit hairy here because I do a bit of FB for TBAG or TBAG coordination. That gives me a chance to stalk you for money, I guess.

One thing I forgot to note in this post is what hours "count" as work hours. I'm going to go with 9am - 5pm.

I like the thought that you can FB stalk me for money. Boy, if multiple people manage to call me out for cheating, things will get expensive quickly, and I'm such a cheapskate anyway.

And, yes. We should probably just try to schedule in social media time. If our schedules ever come to resemble anything that's even remotely consistent, eh?

So what does the pirate sticker look like?
I'm glad you've found such a great place.

I will take a picture of mine on my bike when I get home to Seattle Monday! Pirate stickers forever!
Dec. 2nd, 2015 06:00 pm (UTC)
Hmm, that suggests that a small package I sent in your direction hasn't yet showed up, OR that I screwed up and didn't put yours in there!

Or maybe I should check better! I got the waffle iron handle, and that's quite a challenge, by the way.

scrottie says, "Oh yeah, and that reminds me that I still need to talk to you about the BioPace."

By which he means, if the waffle iron handle happens successfully, pack it up with the BioPace, and we will send you an appropriate bribe or two. :-D

Man, that'd rock.
I have some ideas. I don't think I can generate a whole new waffle iron handle because it's just too complex. However I think I can machine a bit that vastly increases the surface area of/around the broken piece, and use a combination of high temp adhesive and mechanical retention to restore its function.

Oooo, high-temp adhesive! I'm totally game. I also don't think the replacement handle needs to resemble the original handle. If I'd been able to find a drawer handle with screw holes at the appropriate width, I probably would have used it instead!

I was thinking more of the upper lip, that has a note on it about its relevance to the overall function. If it were just a handle with correctly-spaced bolt holes, I'd already have it done!
Dec. 4th, 2015 06:11 pm (UTC)
I think the only thing with that upper lip part is making something stick up to that height (could be two little legs, for instance, instead of the whole surface). I actually used the whole waffle iron without that handle on it the other week. It was tricky to open it and it didn't sit flat when fully open, but there's definitely some room for slop. Regardless! Anything that holds together better than the melting epoxy will be an improvement.

Hooray tea and pirates! That sounds marvelous!

I gave the pirate reflector to my friend Joe (GeoJoeK) on the Twitter. He was delighted and it went right on his bike. :D
