Recent events, in photos

I might need to figure out some sort of GoPro-like setup to document my commute here. It's just too busy to convey a proper sense of the whole experience through static photos.

Aside from that, assorted recent photos where the only coherent theme is "stuff in my life recently."

Dishwashing
From the Nebraska lab: Some of the empty bottles that used to contain various buffers and solutions as abandoned by previous users. I may have gone on a cleaning rampage right before leaving, although I didn't manage to finish washing all of the dishes. The important part is that now there aren't shelves full of solutions with worn-off labels, just piles of dirty glassware that needs to be washed.

Workspace
These shelves held the important goods used for cricket-poking experiments. I used that entire pen's worth of ink while recording data for this sets of experiments.

Kitties in bagses
Emma does not enjoy traveling by moving truck, but found some solace inside of S's pannier.

Long train in Wyoming
Long train in Wyoming. Some of the trains may have been around a mile long.

Napa Valley sophisticated dining
Sophisticated dining in Napa Valley during the 200k permanent. We highly enjoyed the coffee, sandwiches, and pastries at this bakery.

Bikes on trains
Bikes on trains! California is lucky to have so much roll-on bike service available. Room for up to 7 bikes on every train car!

House dinner
House dinner. Last night visiting with A and W. Instructions for this photo: "Do something awkward!"

Morning view
My morning view, erging until the sun comes up. Please admire the amazing garden created by sytharin, plus the chicken coop with three chickens in it, plus the enormous swing set.

New officemate
My new officemate (so to speak).

The coal trains from wyoming form an almost continuous loop of train down as far as alabama, carrying 400 million tons of coal per year.

Gopro cut the price on one model of the hero4 down to $200 today. It's the one that the whole camera is about the size of a golf ball, way smaller than most of their offerings.

Figures they'd be part of the coal train parade. Sigh.

I wish I could just borrow a GoPro, instead of owning one, really. I so rarely wish to film things that it would be a waste to own one.

I'd sort of like to own one. If I DID I'd loan it to you.

Doesn't look like coal hoppers, tho. More like a long string of box cars.

Yeah, those look more like boxcars or multimodals.
We have standard coal cars behind our work pretty often, but every once in a while, we see a dedicated coal train with the weird cars that share wheels.
