Less than 40 km to go

If I had more presence of mind, I would go back through previous years of Holiday Challenges to compare this year's approach. This year, I think I have been the most consistent I have ever been in my day-to-day erging. It helps that the erg is right there, on the back patio, and that I am somehow managing to pry myself out of bed in the morning to get right on it. I've been getting in a 10k at a solid pace, then adding on 15-16 minutes of "bonus meters," which works out to around 3500m. By the time I finally got underway with the whole thing, I calculated that I only had about 20 days to complete the Challenge, which translates to 10k a day. The "bonus meters" thus earn me the occasional day off. Tomorrow morning will be one such day. If I am consistent about this approach on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, I should be finished by Sunday.

This is a much less stressful arrangement than the times when I have tried to shoehorn in the meters between the end of the workday and dinner. Or times when I have had to go over to the gym, a friend's house, or a boatyard/boathouse to erg.

Work at the moment largely consists of reading papers and manuscripts. This kind of activity is always slower than I'd like.
