I turned older

Yesterday was my thirty-fifth birthday. This has felt like one of those, "How did I get here?!" birthdays, so I've been pretty quiet about it. I'm half my father's age this year, so that's part of the whole feeling.

But altogether it was a good birthday. scrottie gave me a Wii-U bundled with Super Mario Maker, so we spent the evening setting it up and having some silly fun with the housemates. He and I also went for dinner at the Cheese Board, which is one of those establishments that one hears about again and again and so a visit is in order in the very least to be able to say, "Yes, we have been there. Yes, the pizza is very nice." And really, it was. Good ice cream, decent beer selection, pretty satisfying pizza and salad with as little takeaway waste as possible, and even some live music from an entertaining string band. Oh, and lots of small children darting around in hyperactive form.

I can see why they've gone for the "one type of pizza per day" mode of operation, given the insane volume of people they serve.

I would say, though, that Pizzeria Bianco makes superior pizza with a more pleasant dining experience. It does, however, require a visit to downtown Phoenix. Compromises, I suppose.

I'm grouping in this morning's Bike-Friendly Fridays coffeeshop bike ride and tomorrow's 200k brevet as part of the extended birthday festivities. Really, life is pretty good when all these things are included.

I should still keep working on figuring out what I'm doing with my life, though. Not that I expect things to ever actually get figured out. Still.
