You might remember, not too long ago, me having a less-than-ideal experience with rainy weather here. That inspired scrottie, my parents, and annikusrex to all start thinking about ways to help me get into a more waterproof jacket that would be better for rowing and bicycling. After all, my Tufts rowing jacket is a good 15 years old by now. Even if I re-coat its exterior, I suspect the Gore-tex is a goner.

So I've had my eye on a Showers Pass jacket, as a style recommended by many of the long-distance cyclists that is pretty close-fitting. The challenge is that, for something like a jacket, it's best to have a really good idea as to the jacket's fit before plopping down vast sums of money. REI carries the Showers Pass jackets, but they don't open until 10 am, and I just haven't been able to get my boats in a row (har har) to get over there and look around. The last time I tried, they were in the middle of one of those Garage Sale events, and I really didn't feel like dealing with the crowds of people pawing through things in search of the Perfect Bargain. Ugh. No thanks.

But yesterday, someone posted to the San Francisco Randonneurs e-mail list about a lightly-used Showers Pass jacket, size medium, for less than half the price of a new one. It was a rider who lives in Albany, fairly close to me.

Sold! I am actually happier to have a lightly-used jacket, as compared to a brand-new one, not only because the price is right but because I will be less concerned about scuffing it up a little, and it isn't such a huge money sink. The rider who sold it to me is actually going to donate the funds to RUSA, because his reason for getting rid of it is because he was *given* another Showers Pass jacket of the correct larger size for him. A win all around.

And now I have it just in time for the weekend's brevet, with a forecast that's looking windy and rainy (90-100% chance of rain, hooee!). That should be a good test-run.
