Swing shift

Yesterday we did the 1 pm circadian timepoint, which meant work from 11:30 - 2:30. I spent the time immediately prior getting better prepared for it, so things went much more smoothly than on Tuesday (what day is it today, anyway?). Immediately thereafter, I did the daily duties for the feeding experiment, but ran out of gas by the end of the day, so once again I'm behind on data entry. At least I was able to improve our circadian schedule sheet and checklist, and get more datasheets ready to go. Scrambling is stressful and there's still a long list of things to get prepared each time we run the experiment.

It was really nice to be able to go home and eat dinner at a relatively normal dinner-eating time. I had to run to buy some gross pizza on Tuesday.

The alarm went off at 3:20 this morning, at which time I got up, made lunch, and headed in to the lab to remove food from the cricket bin. Green traffic lights the whole way here. After pulling food, I got a bit more sleep on my boss's couch, then ate breakfast and got set up for the 9 am timepoint (ran from 7:30-10:00).

It's disorienting to have to track a procedure at different times of the day. Overall, though, it's less disorienting to do this than to try and set the incubators to some other light-dark cycle and then try to keep the times of day straight.

Also, the midafternoon drag is hitting HARD. Oof.
