1 down, @#$*%$@^& to go

Thankfully, yesterday's brain fuzz seems to have mostly lifted as of today. Also, sometimes a break is the best way to make progress on a piece of writing. This morning, I was able to ask myself, "Okay, self, what components are supposed to be in your cover letter?" and then revisited what I wrote and made it way more substantive and better.

I was in a slight bit of panic because I wanted to apply for a job with a September 15 application deadline, and it's really stretching things to request reference letters on such short notice. In fact, the ad states " *To ensure full consideration, applications and reference letters should be received by 15 September 2016. * "

So I got my materials turned in (in reasonable shape, hopefully). Then, this evening, I received a message from one of my reference letter writers, who says that the automatic e-mail generated by my application says they have until November 1 to submit reference letters.

Which raises the question: Do I really want a job at a place that's so disorganized about the hiring process? (don't answer that; there are still good reasons to submit an application anyway)

Regardless - getting this application turned in feels like clearing a hurdle. The first one is the hardest.

I am taking a break from the circadian experiment this week because we don't have enough crickets anyway plus I need to get ready for a conference coming up in two weeks. Plenty of other things to work on in the meantime.
