Quiet; Noise

The new housepartment is going to be called DogTown.

DogTown is quiet. But it also has a pesticide problem, which means it's bad for [personal profile] scrottie to spend time there. Argh to that. Based on the experience in Texas, the washout period can take around 6 months, which is how long I'll be here in total. And that's if the neighbors don't spray, which is highly unlikely. Pesticides suck.

When I was a graduate student, I thought this wing of the building was loud.

Now, in the post-California era, I find it to be okay. Part of that is because I am in an office shared with only two other people, both postdocs, so I can CLOSE THE DOOR. So it's quieter than the desk in the lab at Berkeley.

Also, the talking people who are here seem to go home after around 4-4:30 pm.

Also also, because it's an office, I can dine "al desko," for better or worse. The break room is actually fairly quiet, too.

It will take an extra level of self-control to maintain the kind of work output I seek to maintain. But at least there are more opportunities to concentrate here. What a relief.
