A few small things [plants, insects]

The vanilla bean orchid has grown maybe almost a foot in the time we've been in Arizona.

Race to the top

S says we should have a vanilla party when it reaches the top of Marge (Marge being the moss-covered cylinder). On the other hand, vanilla prices are spiking these days. It will be at least a few more years before this orchid is anywhere close to ready to make vanilla beans.

Here's one of the bees we've found hanging out among the bisqueware:

Leaf-cutter bee?

Another old-timer showed up yesterday. We looked at each other and went, "Hey, I know you." He tends to be pretty quiet, and specializes in making cylinders with textured surface decorations.

The weather is cloudy and humid today. This may be one of the earliest starts to the monsoon season. We may be heading down to Tucson tomorrow morning. I'm keeping a close eye on this site:

And practiced getting up at 3:30 am this morning to check it. I have 45 nests ready to go.

Can you make something that looks like a river rock? For my dinosaur dioramas.
